Empathy Manual

The specific objectives of the Empathy Manual – pocket edition are the following:

  • raising awareness about empathy and its benefits in the academic and medical fields;
  • providing valuable knowledge about empathy and relevant information regarding the dimensions of empathy and correlations between them;
  • underlying the negative consequences of the lack of empathy;
  • highlighting the importance of an early acquirement of empathic skills on the quality of the doctor-patient relationship;
  • providing up-to-date evidence-based information, practices, and interventions to improve communication skills with emphasis on the development of empathy.
    The specific objectives mentioned above aim to present a framework of the multifaceted concept of empathy and its components. By highlighting the specific socio-culturally determined aspects of empathy, the experience of the project partners will be capitalized. This framework represents a necessary basis for understanding and awareness regarding empathy in clinical settings.
    Empathy awareness is an essential phase:
  • to increase students’ ability to work together and to improve the teamwork and the academic flow, which have beneficial effects on the quality of academic life;
  • to develop communication with positive future outcomes (providing personalized care (Moudatsou et al., 2020), enhancing the patient/ client encounter, building their trust, improving adherence and health outcomes);
    -to identify and apply the most appropriate interventions for empathy development.
    In this way, the specific objectives of this work package contribute to the general objectives of the project: awareness regarding empathy and the improvement of empathic skills in Medicine and allied health fields.
